I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to those who supported this art project. I have always believed that helping out when and where you can is one of the most important aspects of being an artist. Unfortunately I was not able to break even with this project. Even with each painting going for $1250.00 US, I only managed to raise $3141.00 with the sale of two canvases still leaving a shortfall of $359.00. I invested $7000.00 to bring this project to fruition which paid for the materials, the professional services to create prints, posters, coffee mugs and post cards but unfortunately I came up short. My ambition was to share the profits after these expenses were paid for but unfortunately I was unsuccessful. However I did try my best to raise funds to help compensate the merchants along Cambie St. who financially suffered due to road construction. I would like to extend my deepest apologizes for not being able to provide you with something...anything from the Vancouver Arts Community. It was my dream to walk into a store, selected at random and just hand a merchant an envelope stuffed with cash and say that this was from the Vancouver arts community but I suppose it was just not meant to be. However I am honoured to have been embraced by my local community and I can say that to those who came out and to those who purchased this art, it was those who mattered most who shared and to those lucky enough to purchase an original, I congratulate you. As the only Canadian painter to send a flag into orbit and soon to unleash a new series, it is my privilege and honour to have you in my life. With the painting of the Park and Capers now in the hands of private collectors, I am going to not only nail my name to the pages of history, but to embark on some of the most ambitious art projects in human history to which will make your investment into me, worth while. At the opening of the 50, I will give only my private collectors and an elite, select few, the first right of refusal to purchase paintings prior to that series being auctioned. Memberships has its privileges in the Joe Green club. :) Artists can afford to be a little different and as such can create their own mystique surrounding their work. I am not a sell out, will not sell out, can never sell out and as such will not offer these works again, to anyone, at any price. This chapter is now closed. I will only make my works available at certain times, for noble causes and will only be offered once and only once. My art is precious to me as it is to some others. Money can always be earned but a Joe Green painting is a unique expression that can and will only be captured in one painting. For as much as I love prints, compared to an original, they simply cannot compare. As a graphic artist, it's too easy to have digital images copied and sent all over the world in seconds however a painting is unique. I place the values of integrity and honour above all into all my work, especially paintings and I hope it's reflected in my brush strokes, colour and composition. My life, at present I am only 35, will soon come to an end. Be it in 50 years or tomorrow but in a blink of an eye from now, I will be gone and only my paintings will be present to reflect who and what I am. I want my work to stand for something noble, honourable and decent but I will not place my own sense of financial self determination over and above my own sense of personal honour. As these paintings pass into history, never again to re-appear here in Vancouver during the course of my lifetime, may they stand for our collective sense of neighborhood values and community spirit. I hereby close The Cambie 6 project with honour. I honestly did try my best Vancouver. Sincerely, Joe Green |
